Well Drilling and Yield Testing

Michael Barlow Well Drilling completed the well drilling, well yield testing, and preliminary water quality testing on April 21, 2014. The well depth is 250 feet with a 200 foot head of water in a 6 inch diameter bore hole with 6" PVC casing down to a depth of 36 feet and 4"PVC casing from 36 feet down to 115 feet. The well was capped and sealed with grout to a depth of 36 feet. The drill hole profile encountered the following subsurface materials: Soil from 0 to 6 feet, clay from 6 to 14 feet, brown shale from 14 to 32 feet, granite from 32 to 50 feet, fractured granite from 50 to 110 feet, and granite from 110 to 250 feet. Well yield testing showed 10 gallons per minute was maintained over a three hour test with 15 minute test intervals. At the start of testing, the water level was at 42 feet (a 208 feet head). During testing, the water level held at 60 feet (a 190 feet head). Microbiology testing of the water showed positive for Coliform bacteria (as expected since it is temporarily introduced with the well drilling equipment) and negative for E-Coli bacteria. Wet chemistry testing showed that the Nitrate, pH, Settleable Solids, and Turbidity tests all passed. Installation of the well pump system and delivery of water to the home will occur at a later date when the home is constructed. Water quality testing will occur again at that time and any adjustments to the chemistry will be incorporated into the water delivery system to ensure a safe and reliable supply of water for human and farming consumption.
